Through the experience of the risen Lord still guiding and comforting believers today, this hymn sings the joy of serving Jesus. Its testimonial voice brings the message of resurrection into daily walking, facing sorrow and hoping for the future. Christ’s resurrection rests on the real event proclaimed by the apostles; believers’ inward assurance is their reception of and response to this gospel. The disciples on the road to Emmaus experienced the Lord walking with them and understood God’s redemption afresh as he explained Scripture.
