Philippians 3:14 says, “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Paul had already believed for many years when he wrote this, yet in the previous verse said, “I don’t regard myself as yet having taken hold” (Philippians 3:13). Calling is therefore a road to run to the end, rather than one moving experience at the start. Ephesians 4:1 puts it more simply: “walk worthily of the calling with which you were called”. Worthy here means corresponding to that calling, beyond earning it. The song suits youth camps, commissioning and ordination. Remind the congregation that the road's prize lies at its finish, rather than in applause.
