Psalm 103 calls us not to forget all God’s benefits, while James points every good gift towards the unchanging Father. Counting daily provision, companions and moments of protection trains thanksgiving. Its deeper foundation remains Ephesians’ proclamation of salvation by grace, leaving no room to boast in works. Thanksgiving does not require suffering people to deny sadness, suppress injustice or call every loss good. The church can weep while remembering God’s faithfulness in Christ, and let received grace flow into generosity and service.
