About this hymn

Ephesians 5:18 says, “Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit”. Both concern what governs a person; the difference is what exercises that influence. “My soul thirsts for you. My flesh longs for you, in a dry and weary land, where there is no water.” (Psalm 63:1) describes a similar emptiness: something will fill the human heart. This song suits the middle of worship and retreats. Be careful not to present filling as an experience we can manufacture. The verb in the verse is passive.

When to use this hymn
