Redeeming grace · Freely given grace
As those who are loved remember Jesus’ birth, his laying down his life and his sympathy, wonder at grace arises in their hearts. This song’s thanksgiving rests on these specific acts of redemption. Romans 5 emphasises that Christ died for us while we were still weak and sinful; Hebrews 4 invites us to come confidently before the throne of grace because of his sympathy. Recognising our unworthiness can help us receive the Lord’s kindness more deeply and become willing to respond in repentance and trust. At a gathering, leave time after singing for prayers of thanksgiving, allowing the congregation to name how the Lord has sustained them and ask him to help us share the mercy we have received with others.
