Through the relationship of a father caring for his children, this hymn expresses how those who belong to God can rely on him securely. Romans explains that believers receive their identity as children and can cry out to the Father. The same chapter acknowledges the reality of suffering yet declares that these things cannot separate us from love in Christ. The security expressed in the hymn therefore rests on a deep foundation of belonging and can accompany people in continued trust amid loss, change and fear. As we sing, adults and children alike can bring their needs to the heavenly Father and learn to care for one another. When the church welcomes new members or accompanies a grieving family, this gentle assurance reminds them that their lives remain in the Father’s care.
