The glory of God · Loving kindness and mercy
The song begins with personal gratitude for being sought and chosen by the Lord, gradually widening into praise for his lovingkindness and righteousness. Those who receive grace see their former lowliness and how God has lifted them up, finding fresh courage to live. Psalm 113 praises the Lord who cares for the poor; Ephesians connects election with receiving grace in Christ. As we sing, we can consider how the Lord brought us before him through the gospel, our families or the church, and give thanks for these real supports. Experiencing love and acceptance also moves us to respect those who are easily overlooked and continue sharing the kindness we have received.
