About this hymn

Pictures of sowing and harvesting make this hymn an encouragement to faithful servants. Psalm 126 joins tearful sowing to joyful harvest, expressing distressed people’s hope in God’s restoring grace; Galatians urges believers not to lose heart in doing good. In mission, the picture recalls careful gospel sowing and patient care for people, entrusting spiritual growth to God. Some sow and others water; results need not be calculated as individual performance. Even when no response can presently be seen, we can continue loving people in prayer, value coworkers’ giving and hold hope through the Lord’s promise.

When to use this hymn

Mission Sundays, commissioning gospel workers, encouraging coworkers and thanksgiving gatherings.
