The pilgrim journey · Prayer and drawing near
Using life-giving bread, this hymn asks Christ to feed the soul through his Word, helping us know truth, receive freedom and learn obedience. John reveals Jesus himself as the bread of life; Luke records the risen Lord opening his disciples’ understanding of Scripture and rekindling their hearts. Singing can prepare for reading by admitting our need for his personal teaching and renewed illumination in familiar passages. Scripture’s equipping also directs daily good works. After receiving, ask what today requires trusting, correcting or practising, so inward nourishment bears the fruit of love and service.
