Hope for the end of the age · Eternal life and rest
Among the most familiar songs at Chinese church funerals, it pictures death as sunset: the sun has not disappeared, but is no longer visible from this side. Revelation 21:4 promises the other side's reality: “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain any more. The first things have passed away.” Paul uses another picture in Second Corinthians 5:1: “For we know that if the earthly house of our tent is dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens.” The tent will be dismantled; the house is already prepared. When using the song at a funeral, remember that its hope does not cancel present grief. Singing it must not hurry people to stop crying. ⚠️ It remains copyrighted: among its several collaborators, the latest death was in 1978. This module provides an introduction and does not host the lyrics.
