Redeeming grace · Resurrection and victory
The Gaithers wrote this song during a difficult period of social unrest, as they were welcoming another child and wondering about bringing a child into such a generation. The second stanza sings of just that: holding a newborn and daring to face tomorrow because the Lord lives. Its hope has a concrete setting rather than being abstract. It first acknowledges that tomorrow really can be frightening. The refrain's thought that his life enables us to face tomorrow emphasises the enabling: people are given strength, even when tomorrow itself has not improved. It suits funerals and pastoral visits, as well as thanksgiving for a newborn.
Easter, funerals and memorials, thanksgiving for a newborn; visiting brothers and sisters who are ill or anxious.
