Ephesians 4:2 calls for humility, gentleness, patience and bearing with one another in love. The original wording for bearing with one another has a sense close to putting up with someone: carrying what makes us uncomfortable about them. It does not mean never noticing those things, but noticing and continuing to bear them. Colossians 3:13 makes the standard clear: forgive as the Lord has forgiven you. Within church, the hardest task is rarely loving strangers. It is loving people we know too well, whose faults we understand clearly. This song suits small groups and ministry teams after friction, provided the matters have already been talked through.
